During the two school years of 1971-73, I rented the house from Burchell for my brood of five, and to help pay the rent, Brig and I painted the exterior of the house, and Burchell didn't want us to waste time or paint putting the blue trim back. The house was a mess when we moved back in in the summer of 1971, after being left by Mother and Daddy only three years previously. The folks came back and helped me clean it up, cleaning filthy hardwood floors, and scrubbing and painting over fly-specked walls and ceilings. My children still think that the two years spent there were the best in their young lives - for me, it was still such a safe place, and I hated to leave it. I was in the third grade when I got to ride the new bus home to Penrose on George Washington's birthday. Talk about excitement. The house wasn't painted as yet, so the raw wood exterior was our first greeting. The house looked huge, and seemed spacious. I remember the grape light fixtures in the bedrooms - it was the first time since we had gotten electricity in 1939 in the little brown house that there wren't bare light bulbs hanging from the ceiling. We embraced the house and it embraced us. Life was good, and we felt safe. The bonds formed in childhood have lasted us all of our lives, and we have been blessed for that.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14728351230605312730noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114307744147144762.post-23835009532218308392012-02-25T21:39:30.640-07:002012-02-25T21:39:30.640-07:00PS. The photo in the blog heading is perfect. Wou...PS. The photo in the blog heading is perfect. Would you also post it at the top of your writing so that when I copy this post over to my Word document(s), I can include this photo? All heading photos that have been posted over the years disappear as a new one appears. I would love to have this photo with your writing. Thanks a bunch.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06652616779595499610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4114307744147144762.post-58608742743650850932012-02-25T21:35:58.446-07:002012-02-25T21:35:58.446-07:00I have just had a most wonderful experience. As I...I have just had a most wonderful experience. As I read this post, I found myself safely tucked in the little white house full of love, with warmth from the coal stove in the winter and somewhat cooled by the soft Wyoming winds blowing through the open windows in the summer. My Saturday has come to a very sweet end with your shared memories to help me sleep. Thank you.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06652616779595499610noreply@blogger.com
