For one story, I think the doll is the one that I had left on the floor and Daddy stepped on when he carried out a bathtub of water. The legs were broken off and I cried because it was a special doll for me. Daddy felt bad, too. I learned a lesson the hard way about not leaving toys on the floor.
The kerosene (coal oil) cans on the doorstep mean we were still using kerosene lamps and hadn't gotten electricity which came in 1939. How old is Liz here? Note the rag stoppers in the cans. And what else is in the cans other than kerosene?
