Mom at Sunlight in the Haystack With Louise and Dwight

Speaking of the picture of Mom in the haystack at Sunlight with Louise and Dwight, here it is.

Hi Mom

I decided I would go ahead and re-edit many of the photos from our small treasure trove of old photographs. I have saved all of the originals, which I regard with a certain reverence since I have looked at them for so many, many years.  We're all familiar with the original of this photo, in which Mom is sitting overlooking a mountain valley in Sunlight above Cody.  Now that I can see her, I feel almost like I am getting reacquainted with her when she was young for the very first time.  I hope others will continue to post.  I encourage us all to begin including more stories and reminiscences in our comments to make our blog more of a valuable family history.

Ann And Judy

This photo was almost beyond redemption and was difficult to clean.  This version is the best I could do.  I might not have posted it except Uncle Norman's photo shoot would have been incomplete without it.  Now Ann is strangling the poor cat and Judy is chewing on her elbow.  Is Ann crying or laughing?  I remember clearly the day Norman took these pictures, lining us up in the sugar beets by the back door.  The year Uncle Norman and Aunt Cindy were there working with Dad on the farm was a great year for us kids.  He was fun to be around, took us to Lovell and Powell to the movies, and worked with us in the beet fields and at haying time.  It was the first and only time we ever were able to spend time with one of our uncles, and the time was over all too quickly.  Penrose was really a quite lonely place to grow up, since there were no other children our age that we could play with and grow up with.

Judy and Ann Dyeing Easter Eggs, again

I know this has been posted before, but in the spirit of Easter again, here it is once more.  Ann in Pigtails, Judy in Shirley Temple curls.  It is getting more and more difficult to get a rise out of anyone for comments, however.  Used to be a one sentence inane comment would net 18 comments at least.

Six Blood Children of Russell and Minnie Blood: at Dad's Funeral 1993

The resolution on this camera isn't very good, but the photos might have some historical relevance.  From left to right, Steve, Ann, Judy, Elizabeth, Dwight, and Louise

Dwight and Russell M.

I had this midget camera for a few years that took midget pictures, but I thought this one worth saving.  Orem in the 80s.

Petersens at Bloods 1974

Unfortunately, taken with a midget camera without more than 1 pixel but it's still worth saving.  I think.

James W. and Namesake James B.

This is exactly how I remember Grandpa Wasden, who worked every day of his life until he finally had to go to the nursing wing of the Lovell Hospital.  You think you can't tend a garden in your 90s?  Look at the size of his patch.  And this photo of little Jim hightailing it in front of Jas. B. (no disrespect) always tickled me.

Down in the Valley

The three innocents sitting on the fence. This picture was taken in August of 1955, when we all went with Mother to Valley up the South Fork of the Shoshone River to scope out the possibility of her teaching in this remote area for a year. The picture had faded badly, and my program was not sophisticated enough to recover colors, but you can see the happy faces of Steve, Ann, and (more grown-up) Judy. This picture brings back a lot of memories.

Back to a long-ago 4th of July

These pictures were part of a treasure trove that was found in an old album that Uncle Norman gave to me. The Fourth of July may be a few weeks off, but I wanted to post these pictures while I have the pcitures out. I do not recognize all of the people in the pictures. The bottom one, of course, is Ann and Neal in the box in the tree. As usual, Ann has a smile on her face, although this probably wasn't her choice of what to do. The middle picture shows our gray Ford (on the left). You can always pick out Dad because of his light felt Stetson (hat), which he wore everywhere. And Judy is obvious, with her plaid coat. Enlarge the other pictures and let us know who you see????
