Another Piece of Penrose History

Hopefully this can be read once it is posted.

To My Fellow Penroseites

Without even consulting all of you who share the ownership of our Penrose blog, I have taken the liberty of embellishing it a bit, as you can see.  I thought the addition made it an authentic Penrose morning.   I hope you all approve.

Penrose Sunday School Picture Identification

When I saw this among the papers, I said aha, now I know what this is. I had a good time matching names to the faces of the earlier post of the actual picture of the Penrose Sunday School members. Before the list, I could only identify possibly 2 Wasdens. Now you can find the rest. I notice that David Wasden is missing from the picture. So print it out and play the match game.

Latter-Day Saint Biographical Encyclopedia 1936

This is an entry that was found in the Latter-Day Saint Biographical Encyclopedia Volume IV dated July 4, 1936:
WASDEN, James B., Bishop of the Penrose Ward, Big Horn Stake, Wyoming, from 1915 to 1928, was born July 16, 1870, in Scipio, Millard Co., Utah, the son of James B. Wasden and Anna Sophie Jensen. He was baptized by Isaac Pierce, moved to Big Horn, and filled a mission to the Southern States in 1898 - 1900, was ordained a High Priest July 30, 1910, by Jesse W. Crosby, jun., and a Bishop April 11, 1915.

As we all know, the father of James B. is John Brooks, but the remaining information is interesting. If anyone is interested, I did copy the pages that covered the Big Horn Stake, so I have the history of some of the other Bishops from the Basin. Please let me know if you would like that information and I will email the copies to you. Also, I have learned how to access the membership list for the Penrose Church and will do so when I go to the FHL in Salt Lake City.

Keys

These are the keys to the kingdom, otherwise known as the Penrose Church. We did have to talk Mother into permission for the keys, before we could enter those doors for our church adventures.

A Piece of Penrose Church History

I haven't discovered how to iron out the wrinkles - but this way is much more authentic. In the treasures that found their way to my house there was an old worn leather pouch that contained a few of Grandpa's old papers. Among those papers was this receipt for the furniture for the Penrose Church. The receipt is made out to Mrs Wadsen, (interesting spelling). I suspect the little blue chair and the medium sized youth chair that we had at Penrose (Elizabeth is the keeper of the little blue chair) were among the purchases.
