Hang on Steve, hang on.

Love the picture of Steve wrestling the cat. That cat is almost as big as Steve was. I am thankful for more cat pictures.

On a once in a life time occasion Ann and I were told that we could get two kittens from grandpa. The catch was that we had to round them up. They were in the hay in the horse barn and as wild as any Elk Basin bob cat. Ann and I spent what must have been hours trying to sweet talk those kittens into seeing it our way. I remember grandpa coming by to check on us and give us some advise. I don't recall taking the cats home but I do remember that we caught them.

Steve, isn't that the time we headed home with the kittens tucked inside our coats and Mother was so very pleased? In my memory, that was when the newer coal shed had been built just outside the outside kitchen door. We kept those kittens in the coal shed and loved them into submission - almost. I can still see the impish look on Grandpa's face as he encouraged us on in our kitten hunt. It seems to me he told us if salt would work to sprinkle on a rabbit's tail to catch a rabbit, then perhaps it would work on the kittens. Which brings up another memory - remember how we would try to sneak up on the KillDeer (I don't even know if that is spelled correctly) birds to try and catch them. We would get so close, and then the sneaky birds would recover from their "wounds" and fly away. What a smart bird - every now and again we would find the nest, but not very often.

Ann jogged my memory, yes to the new coal bin. We would use the back window, (door) to get in to see the kittens so that they couldn't scurry out the front. We did this until they were tamed into submission. We have injoyed the killdeer here. Mary Lynn finally found a nest and has some great photos somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.
