The top picture is another picture from my very first roll of film.  And the second one is priceless beyond any measure.  Louise and I figured out this dress is the same one Louise wore in her famous first-day-of school photo.  The posing by the poor lilac bush was intentional and I remember it clearly, but what else was there?  And the first year or two Dad grew sugar beets right up to the back porch in an attempt to earn whatever extra pennies could be earned by doing so.  We never knew how hard our parents struggled.  But then we had cats.

I always loved the blithe insouscience that Judy disiplayed in the bottom picture, as she clutched the kitten in a "death" grip. The top picture is one that I don't recall seeing. Love it - she is just a little older, right? Wonder what the sugar beet yield was in the back yard?

That kitty is not going to get away. I love this picture. I had to ask Dwight about the chicken house in this and the companion picture of Judy and Elizabeth because I did not remember that it was near the house at one time. I was trying to place it and I could see the outline of the hills above the canal, so I was somewhat confused. So pictures are not only a arecord of people but of history. Good job,Dwight.

Insouscience? That is a true dictionary word for me (in other words I have two choices: look it up and learn what it means or go "oh well". So far I am at "oh well"). Great pictures of a cutie.

It truly is a 50 cent word.

Don't look it up - I probably misspelled it! However, it aptly describes her happy grin and outlook on life. This was a picture that Uncle Norman took.

Oh, yes, Louise, this is looking south - the back porch would be on Judy's right. The first coal bin was the first thing we saw, and the chicken house was further south for at least the first year we were in the house. This would have been 1944.

I am grateful to have Louise's dress to wear and a cat to hold in a way that made sense to me.
