The sun is temporarily shining - it must be because this is a birthday day. Happy birthday, sister dear. May your day be full of good things and happy memories. Love you lots.
For one story, I think the doll is the one that I had left on the floor and Daddy stepped on when he carried out a bathtub of water. The legs were broken off and I cried because it was a special doll for me. Daddy felt bad, too. I learned a lesson the hard way about not leaving toys on the floor.
The kerosene (coal oil) cans on the doorstep mean we were still using kerosene lamps and hadn't gotten electricity which came in 1939. How old is Liz here? Note the rag stoppers in the cans. And what else is in the cans other than kerosene?

How many stories can you tell about everything that (or who) is on this back door step, including Liz and the white cat?

Besides, Louise, I think the kitten must have been more fun than the doll - poor thing.
And, are those the hated long brown stockings that I am wearing?
It would seem that the kitten was more fun than the doll considering that it got the attention and doesn't the smile tell it all?

We realize Ann and Steve are not privy to this ancient history since they arrived in the age of electricity and wringer washers.
