Penrose Snowy Winter 1968

I just found these photos dated 1968.  Perhaps they are appropriate to post now while many family members have struggled with unusal amounts of snow this winter. Without the aid of snow blowers, Dad cleared the  road  south of the house so the milk truck could reach the milk barn. What a great view across the field to Grandma's house.  How many times did you follow the path there to ginger snaps, apples,  funny papers and Grandma's fun stories?
The view toward the west, the haystack and the corrals.  The sun shining after the storm!
In front of the shop extension window was the most popular place for icicles to grow.  I think Ann, Steve and I ate plenty of these.  I don't remember the fancy door to the cellar showing on the right of the picture.

Great pictures - can you think of Dad shoveling out all of that snow by hand? What a job! The monster icicle is amazing - people used to call them widow makers when they were that big, because they could do bad things to you if you were unfortunate to be underneath one when it fell. And, remember, the snow drifted in Wyoming. Thanks for posting these!

What neat photos. How did you get these? Were you in Penrose in 1968? Is that the year Mom and Dad moved to Washington? I don't recognize the "new" cellar door either, nor did I ever know the corral fence was ever painted. These photos bring back lots of wonderful memories for me.

PS Are those cotton tail tracks in the photo by the corral fence?

I think those are cotton tail tracks. Good observation!

I would suspect that Mother took these pictures - 1968 was the year that I descended on Mother and Daddy with my five, and later that year, they moved to Washington.

The cellar door was part of Father's bomb shelter redo in 1961 to survive the big one. I came home from state fair to see the project unfold.

Wow! thanks for those pictures, they're wonderful. Was it a record snowfall that year? I had so many icicles hanging from the roof and that along with the heavy snow on my lilac bushes that when I looked out the window it looked like the Ddr. Zhivago scenes.
Uk The picture of the drifts remind me of a winter when we lived in the other house and the drifts along the irrigation ditch were almost up to the top of the fence posts and we would tromp along the top of them, staying out so long we had to have our feet rubbed to warm them up. We thought it was such great fun.

Hi, Louise! Glad to know that you aren't stuck in some Utah snowdrift right now.
