Sixty Years Ago When the Shoshone River Had A Lot of Water in it

No wonder I was scared to walk across the framework of the river bridge when they were putting new cross boards on it. The school bus would pick us up on the north side of the bridge, but we had to walk across on the beams. I could look down and see the water "way" down below and I was sure I was going to die. I had nightmares for years after that experience, but going down and playing on the pier convinced me that I could have fun on the bridge after all. I conquered the beams on the bridge, but I never could walk the pig pen fence, like some more skilled people.

I liked what Elizabeth said about going to sleep with the sound of the wind blowing through the cottonwood tree and hearing the river going on its merry way. Although the white house was further away from the river than the little brown house, we still had those same peaceful sounds to go to sleep to. However, remember when the ice would build up in the river and we could hear it breaking up? As we/some say today, AWESOME.
