This was back in the good old days when there was actually enough water in the Shoshone River to go over the dam. Hopefully, the flow of the river has returned by now, but the last time we went through Penrose, the river looked very empty. Throwing rocks in the river was such a fun past time. That was one place we wouldn't get in trouble for doing that little deed.

So much water has been diverted from the river, that it hasn't looked like this for many years. Seeing this picture makes our stories about climbing down on the middle pier of the old bridge much more exciting. There usually was lots of water in the river, and when a very cold winter came, it would often almost freeze over, or have lots of ice floes in it. It's so much fun to see pictures we've never seen before!

To think that we lived so close to this landmark. We not only feel a part of the land, but also a belonging to the river.
