Annie With the Cap

Many of the very earliest pictures Mom took are beyond redemption.  But we still cherish them for the memories they evoke.  I'll keep poking around through the old photos and bring up a few more of them.  This is one of my Baby Brownie photos.

The family owes you much, Dwight, for all of the wonderful pictures you took with the Baby Brownie, and later the more advanced (?) Kodak you had. Later pictures after you left home were still made with the Baby Brownie, which you kindly bequeathed to me. Thank you again! (Ann and Steve were certainly great subjects.)

I see Annie's brown socks!!! The cold didn't keep little kids inside all day, did it? Was the cold made by Mother? Ann, what do you think when you see this picture of you?

Judy asked what I think of when I see this picture. I was once a blonde! The mittens were either knitted by Mother or Grandma. My socks must have been fairly new since the knees are in tact. With the warm knitted hat (Dad's?) perched on the top of my head why would I ever button my coat. Mother must not have seen me when I escaped from the house, or I unbuttoned it once I was out of sight. But aside from those thoughts, the look on my face is a reminder to me of the innocence of our lives at this point in time. I never knew the struggles Mom and Dad were going through, I think I only knew I was loved and happy. What a gift that was and still is.

I think the mittens were Mother's creation. She could whip out a pair pretty fast, as I recall.
