Have you ever sat directly behind a pair of back rubbers? Back and forth, up and down, up around the nape of the neck, while the poor man just sits stooped over purring like an idiot. Definitely should be outlawed in church. Did I answer the oater question? You didn't comment.

Maybe the back rub is a way to help someone stay awake??

Dwight, if you did answer the oater question, I missed it. I can't believe that I have been that distracted to have missed it. Repeat?

What's an "oater" question?

What has this got to do with the egregious and disgusting practice of back rubbing in church? Dear Judy, I spent hours writing a detailed essay on what is an oater on the Curmudgeonly Professor blog. I need to know if I have fully answered your query.

Please see my reply on CP.

Agree with the original article. The back rubbers are so distracting. I don't mind people holding hands, but the neck rubbers really get me. Or the wife (girlfriendI) who lays her head on the husband's (boyfriend's) shoulder. Just as egregious are the loving couple who sit together while the children raise havoc. (Unless you have them so well trained that they don't move a muscle. - not.) Oh, well, hard to ignore, but be careful where you sit.
