Velna's Gourmet Veggie Soup, as Reconstituted by Dwight

I will not be outdone.  Here is Velna's classic recipe for vegetable soup.  Get out a big pot. Put it on the stove.  Brown some hamburger.  Get a little bit of everything you have in your kitchen and pantry.  Tomatoes, onions, celery, cabbage, green beans, peas, corn, potatoes, green peppers, red peppers, garbanzos, navy beans, and whatever else is about to turn or get thrown out.  Throw it all in the pot.  Add some water.  Throw in some low sodium beef broth and a bouillon cube.  Sprinkle with oregano, Johnny's seasoning salt, pepper, couple of bay leaves, any other spices you can reach handily in your cupboard.  Berl (boil) the whole concoction.  Simmer awhile.  Light candles to get rid of the soup smell in your house which will last for days.  Make some whole wheat bread to eat with the soup.  Enjoy.  (Velna may have some suggestions here).  You won't starve for a week.
Almost forgot: add a big slug of garlic.

Sounds like the soup Mother would concoct from the fridge. Always good, but she never lit a candle.

Mother would be so pleased - no frills, just throw it in!
