Antique linen from Copenhagen

The linen in this dresser scarf is so soft and beautiful. The only mark on it is a little rust spot where Grandma Wasden had pinned her carefully written history of the piece. We don't know the name of the cousin who made this, but it must have been sent to Grandma Christena Christenson in Gunnison.

What a beautiful treasure. Woven lace must be an incredible craft. I can't imagine!

Today's linen is stiff and wrinkles if you look at it. The softness of this tells me they used to do it better. It has certainly kept very well and is so lovely. I am rereading "Kindred Saints", particularly Christena's time in Denmark. The scarf is material evidence of that period.

P.S. I love Grandma's hand written note.
