Demure Ann and Judy in her organdy May Day dress

Ann, the pose in the picture tells it all - demure. Mother made the blue dress for Judy because she sang a solo in the May Day program at school. I remember her song (well done) and the winding of the May Pole in the gym. Childrlen today would not even think of wearing Sunday best to a family gathering. Remember, Grandpa was wearing a tie in the group picture taken the same day. He definitely did not approve of girls wearing jeans!

I was 11 when this was taken the summer of 1951. I loved this dress more than I can say. Mother made it out of blue organdy, fabric which was quite stiff when ironed with lots of startch. Ann is so cute....and demure.
The red building behind us is the garage with the machine shed to the right. If you look closely, you can see the large gate between the two. "Riding" the gate was fun, but not approved.
Thank you Uncle Norman for taking this picture.

I do remember thinking how wonderful the blue organdy was. Demure? Again??? Did you ride the gate, Judy?
