So - just in case you can't read what Dad wrote inside this little book of scriptures, it says: I pity the river I pity the brook I pity [the] bird that takes this book. Can't you just see the twinkle in his eye?
Some of Dad's experiences with the churches he was taken to by Aunt Eva weren't too happy. He recalls a lot of pictures of hell. Doesn't seem too loving to a little boy.

What do you suppose were the circumstances when Dad wrote that little ditty? Maybe he was sitting in a Sunday School class or something like it?
