Steve is so engrossed. Don't suppose it's comic books? This is a good picture of the six-sided lamp shade. Remember when the new furniture came in 1948 when Dad worked on the construction of the forms for the irrigation system on Heart Mountain. (The year he did not farm.) The chair was a burgandy red color. We had to have a little vacuum to vacuum the chair, the little red rugs, and the couch. Saturday's job.

Ah - I called the lampshade five-sided in an earlier posting. Thanks for getting the correct information out there.
There is a funny story about the vacuum. Mother NEVER bought anything from a traveling salesman. She was always very short with strangers who came to the door, but a vacuum salesman showed up one day and Mother ended up buying a vacuum. It "lived" under Mother and Dad's bed. If I remember correctly, Mother felt so bad about not resisting. There were two other times I can remember her buying something from a traveling salesman. One was the time the Minnesota Woolen Mills salesman came and the other was the Books of Knowledge salesman. Do any of you remember any other times a salesman made it past the front door?
The Watkins man certainly never did, although he was a steady visitor to Grandma and Grandpa's house. Minnesota Woolen Mills was a big deal. The bedspread on Mother's and Daddy's bed came from him, as well as some other things. Later, when I was home in 1968, an Elna sewing machine salesman came around, and she bought an Elna that I sewed lots children's clothes on, and she sewed on for the rest of her life.
This is truly unbelievable. Here is an opportunity to discuss the angelic look on your little brothers' face, how studious with such a thirst for knowledge and everyone chooses to discuss vacuums and traveling salesmen? I saw neither one in this photo. My children and grandchildren love this site. What a great way to connect with the past present and future. I feel the need to soak that last bisquit in the nearly empty gravy bowl.
See the look on Steve's face? I saw that very expression the last time I saw him in person. He didn't change very much, huh?
Steve, you are correct. This was probably one of those times when Mother wondered where you were and whatever were you doing. Do you suppose this was posed?
